FAQ and help

Browser or desktop, updates, sign-in trouble, and how to report a bug.

Browser or desktop?

Both are the same game, with the same accounts, characters and vault.

  • Browser (dodmg.com/play): nothing to install and always the newest version. It needs WebGL 2, which any recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari has. If it won't start, update the browser and turn on hardware acceleration in its settings.
  • Desktop (downloads, Windows, Linux and macOS): a faster game with an unlockable frame rate. Unzip it and run it; there's no installer. Windows may warn that it doesn't recognise the program, because it isn't signed with a paid certificate: choose "More info", then "Run anyway".

The game needs a keyboard and mouse, so phones and tablets can't really play it.

How do updates work?

  • The desktop client updates itself. A new version downloads in the background while you play, and switches over the next time you take a portal (or straight away on the menus). Nobody is disconnected.
  • The browser version is always the newest when you load the page.
  • Server updates don't kick anyone. You keep playing, dungeon runs included, and move to the updated server the next time you change worlds.
  • If your connection drops while you play, the game takes you back to the Nexus by itself, and keeps trying for about two minutes.

The Changelog (on the main menu, in the Esc menu, or on the site) lists every change.

I can't sign in

  • "No account uses that email" or "Wrong password": check them. Passwords are at least 6 characters.
  • "Too many wrong passwords": after 10 wrong passwords for an account, signing in to it is blocked for 15 minutes.
  • "Account in use": the game still has you signed in somewhere, often after a crash. Wait a minute and try again.
  • Lost a guest account? A guest's login lives only on the computer or browser it was made on. Register ("Save progress") to keep a guest's characters for good.

I lost an item

When a character dies, everything it carries is gone; only the vault, potion storage and gift chests are safe. An item that didn't work when you used it (an incantation away from its portal, anything without enough mana) stays in your inventory. If something vanished another way, report it as a bug.

Is it free?

Yes. There's nothing to buy, and every shop in the game takes fame, which you earn by playing.

How do I report a bug?

The game's code is open, on GitHub: github.com/Meapy/Do-Damage. The Support Bot in the Nexus gives the same link. To report a bug, open an issue there and say:

  • what happened, and what you expected;
  • where (which world or dungeon) and when, with your character's name;
  • whether you play in the browser or on the desktop, and your client's version (shown on the main menu);
  • a screenshot if you can.

/checkid shows your account and player ids, which help find you in the server's logs.

Is this the official game?

No. Do Damage is a fan-made private server, not affiliated with DECA Games or Kabam. Realm of the Mad God is a trademark of its owners.
